Grächen village tour

Discover the sights of Grächen.

Selected sights give you an insight into the history, traditions and former life of the mountain people. The objects are all provided with a plaque on which a short text explains their significance. Additional information, including locations, is available via the QR code on each plaque or in a brochure available from the Tourist Office. The tour starts here with the 1st plaque.

On a leisurely walk through the village center, you will learn lots of interesting facts about the mountain village of Grächen. Leave your vacation apartment and immerse yourself in the exciting stories.

After the tourist office with the 1st board, you will first go to the former school building, where you will receive information about the former and current school system in Valais.

Then visit the parish church with its remarkable architectural history and magnificent baroque interior. Here you will learn interesting details about the exciting history of Grächen from the Neolithic Age to the present day.

At the vicarage, a Valais house that has been preserved in its original state, you can find out about how mountain farmers once lived.

Then it’s on to the village museum, the former community hall, which includes an exhibition on Grächen’s traditional irrigation system.

In the surrounding area we also find well-preserved farm buildings, barns, stables and granaries typical of mountain farming.

The tour was created by Reinhard Walter. He is a retired teacher, writer and a walking encyclopaedia. He is also the builder of Chalet Soldanella, your vacation home in Grächen.
